Starting 19 July, all of Scotland will move to Level 0. Guests visiting self-catering accommodations (including overnight stays) will be required to follow the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance. Guests must also adhere to in-house socialising rules, if and as applicable for a region’s protection level.
The Scottish Government and Highlands and Islands Enterprise have committed £16m to repair the funicular, which has been out of action since 2018.
The remaining £4m is for improvements to access and footpaths and to power the snow cannons for improved snow cover.
A government spokesman said that they recognised the importance of tourism to the area, which had been hit particularly hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Preparatory work was started late October by contractors Balfour Beatty, with plans to excavate land around 94 of the funicular piers.
